Wathara II (four days, 12 hours, 33 minutes and 48 seconds) finished 34th on corrected time, with Salacia third and Balandra (Sir Robert Crichton- Brown), twenty-sixth on handicap. The 41-foot sloop Salacia logged 725 nautical miles, probably the longest distance covered by any of the race entrants, but still managed to finish ninth across the line. Owner-skipper Arthur Byrne said that once they had left Sydney Heads they didn't sight land again until they passed Schouten Island: "our navigator had to be extra careful and used the sun, dead reckoning and radio directional findings to check our position," (he was reported as saying after the race).
