Waltzing Matilda leaving Sydney followed by Jack Earl's Kathleen. INSET: The world-cruise crew, left to right: Phil Davenport (owner/skipper), wife Ros, Norwegian Sverre Berg, Keith Davenport and Don Brown. During the war Phil Davenport was a fighter pilot. He was shot down over Norway and rescued from a frozen lake by three of the Norwegian underground. He wanted to thank the people who had saved his life and this was the reason for his diversion to Norway after reaching England on his world cruise.
