Jock has a footnote to this incident: "At the time, experienced Bicheno fisherman, Tim Bailey was one of our crew and he offered me $1,000 if I would put him ashore before dark.
"At this stage it suited us to close with, and identify the coast, and so, with the wind and sea quickly diminishing, we rounded up under Tathra Head with a line to wharf in good time for the evening meal after which we continued on our way - no further mention of the $1,000"
John Muir did his apprenticeship as a diesel fitter with then called Webster & Woolgrowers Pty Ltd., and in 1966 set up his own business, first called Muir Diesel Services and later Muir Engineering at Battery Point. He specialised first in the service and repair of vessels, but the frequency with which he was required to repair winches convinced him there were fundamental weaknesses in their design, so he started the path towards designing and manufacturing a winch of his own.

 Balandra, which Jock described in an earlier chapter as "one of the new breed of yachts." Launched from Muir's in 1965 and is still competing in 1990, she was constructed of Honduras mahogany. Balandra was designed by Peter Nicholson.
